Long is a character in the Pet series. He is the president's nephew who is working to create a loyal pet not capable of defying the Company.
He frequently works with Jin, and their "baby", Meiling as they advance the CEO's agenda using pets.
Personality[]
Making himself at home wherever he is, Long helps himself to pizza, answers the Pizza Hut phone as if he were an employee before cheerfully stating his somewhat sinister activities to Tsukasa, despite not having seen him for some time. Long appeared genuinely surprised when Tsukasa hung up on him.
Prone to anger, he will talk at length on where someone went wrong, and sweeps his laptop off the table in one instance. A sadistic side is shown when he suggests that if Hiroki is crushed then he will have no idea what is being done to him, yet this may have been stated to entice Satoru with changing his memories rather than crush him. Speaking as Dahao's father, he voices that no sane person would ask to have their own grandson whacked.
He does listen attentively to plans, and will alter his own if what someone suggests is better. Ruthless enough to carry out the order to kill Hiroki, Long thoroughly enjoyed the suggestion that instead they alter his memories to make him believe the CEO was Hiroki's Peak giver to ensure loyalty to the Company.
Appearance[]
He has long dark hair which is parted so his forehead is visible with the hair almost symmetrical on either side of his face. His hair fully covers his ears yet his same colored eyebrows above his gray eyes are still viewable.
For clothing, he is seen wearing a dark mahogany red, short-sleeved buttoned and collared shirt. On either side of the shirt placket area are pale red colored sections from the top to bottom. Long also wears near black pants and silvery-white slip-on shoes.
History[]
A memory that Tsukasa shows Hiroki revealed that Long suggested Hayashi have a new pet since Tsukasa's is causing problems. With him constantly defying Company orders, Long wonders whether Tsukasa is purposely training his pet badly as a way to try and see Hayashi. Although at first he feels a pet without a Lock would be pretty useless to them, Long's interest is piqued at learning from Tsukasa that it is a means of making a Pet loyal to the company, that does not bite the hand that feeds it.[1]
Story[]
Long sits in a casino sipping a drink with a young girl nearby and looks to the verbal exchange occurring between Jin, Katsuragi and counselor Zhou.[2]
He is eating pizza and keeping a watch on the Fish & Fish shop opposite the Pizza Hut he is hiding in. Sitting behind the counter near the unconscious lookout that Satoru rendered unconscious, upon seeing Hiroki, he voices that they have opened and wonders if he is finally heading home.
Answering the phone and hearing Tsukasa, he tells him they are following Satoru whilst he ignores Jin's request to give her the phone. He remarks that Tsukasa seems to have hung up.[3]
Travelling with his arm around Meiling, and with Jin, Long tells the driver to drop them off out front when they see Satoru depart his vehicle.[4]
Waiting in a hotel room, he asks Jin how much did Satoru know when she arrives back. Listening, Long interjects to angrily call Jin an idiot for what she revealed. With Satoru likely aware that the qigong masters were all killed by the CEO, Long explains this is how Satoru guessed Jin must be a part of the family since she is still alive. Asking if she even knew he was babysitting her through monitoring the VIP room with a security camera, Long did suspect Satoru might try and alter her memories.
Later, he hears the news from Jin that Tsukasa has been crushed along with Hayashi. Smirking, Long comments on an arrogant jerk who was talking back to him, one who thinks he is high and mighty because he uses an Image. Replying to Jin's concerns, Long reminds her that there are two more Pets left, and whoever is the more well behaved one can continue to create "babies" for them.[5]
Pointing out the target to Meiling
He kneels down to Meiling's level to whisper to her. With the limousine stopping in front of him, Ron tasers Dahao's guard and affirms for him to stay right there. Joining him in the vehicle, he calmly informs the driver to lock the door, then leaning in, he tells Meiling to release her butterfly.
Speaking in conjunction with the large black butterfly affecting Dahao, he has heard things have not been going well for him, and it must be tough for Dahao to be a no-good son. With Dahao sinking into quicksand as his father has made up his mind that counselor Zhou is a traitor, Long stands on top of a butterfly before stepping onto Dahao's father's chair.
Noticing Meiling's butterfly tap against the glass, Long asks what does she think she is doing. Issuing an ultimatum, Long orders her to change his memories now or her butterfly is going to burn. Assimilating into Dahao's father, Long uses him to advise Dahao that he worry about himself stating his grandfather has ordered he be taken out as a traitor as well. To make it more believable, Long says Dahao's grandfather must be growing senile in his old age, but so long as he is the head of the family, they have no choice but to obey him.
He works on his plan by stating he wants to help as Dahao's father, and uses the Chen family's status and fortune being at stake as the reason they must act now. Long uses Dahao's father to sway Dahao into murdering his grandfather before emerging to tell Meiling that she can return the butterfly. Back in the limousine, Long kicks Dahao's guard and retrieves his gun, when he clicks his fingers that will be the signal. He decides they will have to rebuild the guard as well after which he departs the car and leads Meiling away.
By nightfall he has arrived at the Fish & Fish store were he brightly greets Katsuragi with the word on the street that Tsukasa has been crushed. Seeing Hiroki, he speaks to him in Mandarin knowing that he cannot understand it. Not appearing to know what to make of Tsukasa in actuality not being crushed, he agrees to visit another day since he needs to get back and report this anyway. He pauses to listen to Hiroki speak before fully closing the car door.
Walking through an underground parking lot, Long contemplates Meiling as he thinks this really is the "baby" era.
Meeting with Chen Group members
Making his way by boat along with the CEO and Meiling, Ron boards a yacht where he enters the meeting with the Chen family, naked. Clicking his fingers results in Dahao shooting his own grandfather dead, and his guard murdering the other armed men present. Long states that he will just have to keep a lookout to make sure no more traitors come and clicks his fingers twice to activate Dahao's guard to leave.
Accepting the gun handed to him by Dahao, Long then tells him to go to sleep. Watching the CEO interact with Dahao's father, Long assists in the scenario by telling Meiling to release her butterfly. As the yacht sails, he is speaking to Jin on the phone, belittling Tsukasa for trying to pretend that he is fine when he is obviously not. Discussing his concerns, he raises with Jin what people like that done to them.[6]
He is remembered by Tsukasa as "Long," who would have reported his recovery by now.[7]
At a manor with the CEO, Long is concerned about Hayashi potentially being discovered, specifically that it is Tsukasa's pet who was taken to the same hospital. Confessing himself worried, Long says Jin has been working with Satoru and Tsukasa's pet. He is concerned by the extent of Hiroki's powers, and that he only obeys orders from Tsukasa and is too dangerous, yet appears satisfied by the CEO's plan.
Attending the peking duck banquet held for Tsukasa, along with the CEO, Long questions whether Tsukasa means that Katsuragi saw him passed out and jumped to the conclusion that he had been crushed. Long states that he confirmed that Hayashi himself had been crushed, even doing a brain wave test. Joining the CEO's conversation, Ron tells Tsukasa to never mind Satoru, it is his pet that he needs to do something about.
With Tsukasa requesting a pistol, Long answers only employees carry guns and Tsukasa is not Katsuragi. Somewhat smirking, he asks if Tsukasa is going to voluntarily confess to crushing Hayashi.[8]
Receiving a call that Hiroki saw Hayashi after he had nearly been crushed, Long also hears from Katsuragi that Tsukasa was the one who crushed him and so ran away.
Complying with the suggestion he bring Meiling to locate Hiroki, Long queries what happened here as he surveys the shattered fish tanks at the Fish & Fish store. Questioning Katsuragi's competence, Long asks why Hiroki was even able to see Hayashi on his watch.
Remembering a conversation with the CEO concerning Hayashi and Katsuragi, Long is joined by Tsukasa in the kitchen. Pointing out where Meiling is, Long listens as Tsukasa explains how her butterfly can be used to track Hiroki. After he is done, Long announces there is no need for Tsukasa to persuade Hiroki to do anything, they have been ordered to find and kill him. Raising his hand to silence Tsukasa, he wonders whether Hiroki will listen to Tsukasa now knowing that he crushed his peak giver and consequently lost all trust in him.
Long states the bromance Tsukasa had with his pet has come back to bite him then informs him his job here is done. With what Tsukasa told him, he now knows where to find Hiroki and states he and Meiling will take care of it. Although initially set on doing that, Long is very much in favor of Tsukasa's plan to alter Hiroki's memories to make him think the CEO was his Peak giver. Furthermore that since the plan involves Satoru, they can say that Hiroki crushed Hayashi.
Listening as Jin arranges to meet with Satoru, Hayashi's body is wheeled past as Long says for her not to worry, that Satoru does not suspect a thing.[1]
Introducing himself to Satoru in person, Long inputs that Hiroki crushed Hayashi into the conversation Tsukasa is having with him. After entering Meiling's Peak, Long continues to build the scenario that Hiroki should have his memories changed. Privately he thinks once he has that perfect pet, the rest can go in the trash.
With his mind in Meiling's Peak and physically in the car as well he orders Katsuragi to stop since they have found Hiroki.[9]
With Hiroki brought back, Long tells Satoru he should not finish the job by himself with Tsukasa recovering. Unaware that Tsukasa has told Hiroki that Hayashi has been crushed, Long warns that Hiroki knows and Satoru could find out. Hearing a commotion, Long enters the room with a gun behind his back and hears from Tsukasa that Satoru has received a message from Hayashi and intends to escape.[10]
Shooting Satoru in the leg after he runs, Long tells Tsukasa that it is the Company's decision on what happens to Satoru. Instructing Jin to take Meiling back in the room, Long is surprised to see Katsuragi shoot the guards at point blank range. After thinking of Jin's safety first before aiming his gun, Long is then shot through the head by Katsuragi.[11]

Present in the same casino as her, Long later waits with her behind a Pizza Hut counter as they observe the Fish & Fish store. He agrees that she is right when stating it is best they leave before Satoru returns. He does shout at her, calling her soft in the head for what she revealed to Satoru, and reiterates the insult when she says he does not need to shout at her. When altering Dahao and his guard's memories, Long states it would have been easier if Jin were around. He expresses concern for her working in Japan by herself.
As they plan to have Satoru involved with capturing Hiroki, Long alleviates Jin's concerns and says if things start feeling fishy then she should just start speaking Chinese. He tells her that will be his cue to come rescue her as Long kisses Jin on the lips. Overall whilst he could have a lack of patience, he did care for Jin and the consideration for her safety was what allowed Katsuragi to shoot him first.
Meiling[]
A mute girl who Long often brings with him. Considering her, he thinks this is truly the time of "babies." Able to speak via physical contact that induces communication via telepathy, Long is stern with Meiling when she does not do as expected and threatens to burn her butterfly to have her do as he wants. Whether viewing her as a tool, or out of concern, Long suggested they exist her Peak since discussing matters there would upset Meiling.
Tsukasa[]
Answering a Pizza Hut phone, he can recognise Tsukasa's voice at once. Stating it has been forever, he asks if Tsukasa is good, freely sharing that Satoru did a runner so they tailed him. Not particularly caring that Tsukasa has been crushed, his only concern with that news was acquiring more pets to continue creating "babies".
Seeing Tsukasa conscious, Ron gave an unconvincing show of saying he is glad Tsukasa is safe since he was beginning to worry. With Tsukasa achieving the same "son" rank as them, it just makes Long hate him even more, particularly that just one order from the top caused him to crush Hayashi who treated him like family. His wariness extends to considering that Tsukasa suspected something and so purposely sent Hiroki to the same hospital as Hayashi. Concerning Tsukasa's connection with Hiroki, Long states it is like Tsukasa is walking around with his own personal Doberman. Attending dinner with him, Long tells Tsukasa that he has already taken care of his adoption papers, but not to forget that he is the older brother.
Against Tsukasa seeking out Hiroki when he ran away, for his own sake Long was concerned it might be Tsukasa who ended up getting persuaded by Hiroki if he went after him. He asks Tsukasa if they have a problem here when he says that they do not have to kill Hiroki.
He considers Tsukasa one scary dude for the lengths he would go to in order to convince Satoru of the lie that Hiroki crushed Hayashi.
The CEO[]
Chosen to attend the peking duck dinner for Tsukasa's ascension in the Company, Long is professionally close to the CEO. He has sensitive information shared with him, and for his part he holds out an ashtray to catch the CEO's cigar ash. Long does not doubt the CEO would allow a pet who ran away to live.
Katsuragi[]
They generally interact with one another professionally, but he does not treat Katsuragi the same as others. Long questions whether Katsuragi thinks it is a laughing matter when Tsukasa smashed fish tanks in anger, and raises whether Katsuragi's negligence is not the root cause of the problem of Hiroki running away. Long does warn him to be careful, if he screws up too often he will get rubbed out. He voiced to the CEO that Katsuragi's incompetence is only surpassed by his loyalty to the Company. He had no idea that Katsuragi's memories were manipulated by Hayashi. Being unaware of further memory manipulation would extend to Katsuragi's state as Satoru's Carrier Pigeon, culminating in Ron being shot by Katsuragi.
Satoru[]
Evidently tasked with following Satoru when he left his hotel, Long observes him as he is with Hiroki. He monitored the conversation he had with Jin suspecting that he may try and gain information from her. Stating it is nice to meet him when they see each other in person some time later, he advises Satoru to stay calm and help modify Hiroki's memories rather than crush him.
Hiroki[]
Seeing him at the Fish & Fish shop he is monitoring, he regards him as a punk. Long considers the possibility of betrayal from Hiroki and other memory influencing people. Under the impression that Tsukasa has been crushed, he states to Hiroki that he has gotten himself into quite the pickle and patting him on the head, Long declares that he will be taking care of him from now on. In conversation with the CEO, Long addresses Hiroki as "Tsukasa's pet" and is of the view that Hiroki is as all powerful as Hayashi. Long tells Tsukasa that however much ability Hiroki has, his lack of discipline is a problem and he is no use to them if he is constantly mouthing off at Katsuragi. Long was ordered to find and kill Hiroki after he ran away and considers him a pet they have lost.
Hayashi[]
He viewed him as someone who put ideas into other's heads and is further concerned that they do not have any idea what Hayashi has been doing these past two years. Long is aware he had a bond with Tsukasa as well. He voices they should have finished off Hayashi rather than keep his crushed state on life support. At some point he poked fun at Hayashi for keeping Tsukasa as a pet by his side.
Dahao Chen[]
Long arranged to have him shoot his own grandfather of the Chen group, and after having the gun handed to him, Ron praises him as a good boy who did well.

- Provided that Jin was not being misleading when she stated she was twenty four years old, and Long being six years older than her, then he would be thirty years old.
